T-HR3 is a teleoperated bipedal humanoid robot unveiled by Toyota in November 2017, standing 154 cm tall, weighing 75 kg, and with 32 degrees of freedom across its body. Its defining feature is the Master Maneuvering System (MMS): an operator sits in a chair wearing haptic gloves and a VR headset with foot pedals, and through motion mapping the remote T-HR3 reproduces the operator's whole-body movements in real time while providing force feedback.
T-HR3 is equipped with 29 Torque Servo Modules (TSMs), each integrating a motor, reducer and sensors into a standard joint unit so that the robot can be assembled and maintained quickly. Six-axis force sensors in the wrists and soles let it gently grasp soft objects such as paper cups with all ten fingers without crushing them. Toyota plans for T-HR3 to serve in home companionship, hospital care (lifting and moving patients), and dangerous environments such as disaster sites and work at height.
T-HR3 belongs to Toyota's Partner Robot research series. After its public debut at the 2017 Tokyo Motor Show, Toyota continued to iterate around teleoperation and force-feedback technology, making it a representative Japanese service-oriented teleoperated humanoid.
